ABOUT OUR HERBAL GARDEN

         Medicinal plants garden in an essential & basic part of any Ayurvedic institution in order to gain knowledge by the students. Govt. Ayurvedic College & Hospital, Balangir has medicinal plant Garden which contain more than 400 plants species & approximately 1800 number of medicinal plants. The total area of the Herbal Garden is approximately 5 acres. There are 2 numbers of Herbal Garden present in the college campus, one is old Herbal Garden which contains mainly large tree & plants.

       Later another garden is developed for the demonstration & teaching proposes. The demonstration Herbal Garden contains herbs & shrubs. Various plant species are also maintained in big pots. The demonstration Herbal Garden have name plants containing scientific name, sankrit name, family of medicinal plants along with barcodes. By scanning the barcode one can easily know detail description about a medicinal plant. Navagraha vatika (9 planet plants) are also available in the demonstration Herbal Garden.

       Many rare medicinal plants are available in the Herbal garden like Holostema ada-kodien (Arkapushpi Jivanti), Telosma pallida (Jivanti bheda),Pluchea lanceolata (Rasna), pluchea indica ( Rasna bheda),  vanda roxburghii (Rasna bheda), Stevia rebudiana (Sugar leaf), All spices plant, Syzigium aromatium, Cinnamomum camphora, Cinnamomum tamala, Cinnamomum zeylenicum, 5 Desmodium species, 5 Ocimum species (5 types of tulsi), 3 varieties of  Guggul, Sarpagandha, 3 varieties of chitrak, 3 varieties of saiyerik are available in Herbal Garden.

      New medicinal plants of different species are procured from various places and periodically added to the garden. The plants are irrigated with water almost all the day & the Herbal Garden is maintained by the Gardeners.
